Structural Steel Fabrication Equipment: Full-Shop Solutions
Structural Steel Fabrication Equipment: One Partner, Full Shop
A structural steel fabrication shop requires specialized, heavy-duty equipment to safely and accurately process raw steel beams, plates, and tubes into finished building components. A structural steel shop's workflow of saw, drill, cut, form, blast, and weld typically pulls machinery from multiple OEMs, each with its own service contract, parts supplier, and training curriculum. This creates confusion and difficulties for shops as they need to manage different vendors and suppliers.
Capital Machine solves this dilemma as we are a dealer, service provider, and value-added distributor that not only has the top-of-the-line machines for sale, but we also provide comprehensive services that keep equipment working. We carry Peddinghaus for structural profile processing, laser cutting and welding, Messer for thermal cutting, Mazak for fiber laser plate cutting, Accurpress for press brakes, Davi for plate rolls, Yaskawa Motoman and OTC Daihen for robotic welding, and Hyd-Mech for structural band sawing. We offer one relationship and one service organization.
Thermal Cutting for Structural Steel: Plasma, Oxyfuel, and Fiber Laser
Structural steel fabrication machinery requires high precision for steel fabrication. For structural plate, beam copes, and gussets, Messer's MPC2000 MC delivers multi-process cutting with precision plasma, oxyfuel, drilling, milling, and marking in one amazing platform.
Oxyfuel still leads plasma on cutting the thickest plate, typically above 2", while plasma dominates through mid-thickness structural work at much higher speeds. Fiber laser is also moving into structural plate where edge quality matters. Mazak and Peddinghaus both offer heavy plate cutting with lasers up to 30kW with bevelling capabilities.
Capital Machine carries all these thermal cutting systems in one convenient dealer, service provider, and value-added distributor. We set ourselves apart from other vendors with our post-purchase support. Our 43-factory-trained field service engineers have parts-stocked vans and are ready to diagnose and service your equipment across our 22-state territory.
Structural Band Saws and Beam Processing
Structural sawing requires longer bed lengths, automatic shuttle loading, and the rigidity to hold square on heavy wide flange beams, or W shapes, and hollow structural sections (HSS). For these applications not just any band saw machine will do. A properly specified saw upstream keeps your drill line and coping station loaded. Manual or semi-automatic saws often have setup, repositioning, and re-clamping time that quietly drain throughput.
Capital Machine provides several sawing options, such as vertical sawing, horizonal mitering, and horizontal dual column sawing. Our Hyd-Mech band saws are built for structural cut-to-length work, with the duty cycle and miter capacity steel fabricators need.
Press Brakes and Plate Rolls for Structural Work
Capital Machine offers metal fabrication shops several bending solutions. Davi plate rolls, featuring the Davi MAV 3-roll variable axis and Davi MCB 4-roll, can turn flat stainless steel and carbon steel plate into tanks, pressure vessels, steel components, and structural cylinders. Davi 4-roll machines pre-bend both sheet metal ends without removing the plate, while Davi 3-roll requires manual turning of metal sheets. The Davi 3-roll fabrication equipment is simpler and often the right answer when you're not fighting for the last inch of usable material. Capital Machine is Davi's premier strategic partner across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Robotic Welding for Structural Steel
Robotic welding fits perfectly into the high-mix, low-volume workflow of structural steel fabricators as a specialized assistant for repetitive tasks. By automating straightforward welds, robots free up skilled welders for critical, complex joints, thereby increasing throughput and easing the industry's labor shortages.
Capital Machine offers the Peddinghaus PeddiAssembler for automated structural steel assembly and welding applications. It combines robotic tacking and welding, laser measurement, parts scanning, and integrated profile turning to support repeatable assembly and weld quality. CAD-compatible software, automated material handling, and a compact single-rail design help streamline production while reducing manual layout and part repositioning.
The PeddiAssembler can process beams, tubes and channels up to 60 feet long and handle individual parts weighing up to 440 pounds. The system also includes Peddinghaus's Envision technology for 3D measurement and automated quality control during production.
Repeating weldments, such as beam-to-column connections, gussets, stiffeners, and base plates are prime candidates for Yaskawa Motoman or OTC Daihen cells from Capital Robotics, a division of Capital Machine. Shops will find Capital Machine's Fusion Arc welding cells with slot-and-tab construction help shorten deployment time and footprint in a structural fabricator shop already tight on space.
Support Equipment: Shot Blasting, Finishing, and Material Handling
A structural steel shop requires finishing equipment to ensure welds are smooth, steel surfaces are prepped for coatings, and pieces are properly protected against corrosion. Shot blasting prepares structural steel for paint adhesion. Skipping or under-specking this station shows up later as field coating failures.
Finishing equipment handles grinding, deburring, and edge prep. It is the difference between a weld-ready part and a weld-problem part. Material handling, such as conveyors, rotators, and positioners, is where most shops under-invest. This area is also where throughput gains compound across every other station.
Integrated Workflow: Saw, Drill, Cut, Form, Blast, and Weld
Your manufacturing production line is only as fast as its slowest station. Typical structural-shop bottlenecks are undersized saws, manual layout and marking for metal fabrication, and non-automated material transfer between stations. Nesting software with Tekla PowerFab and SDS2 integration lets you drive the entire shop from the same model data reducing rework and missed part marks.
Service, Parts, and Training You Can Actually Count On
Capital Machine has 43-factory-trained field service and preventative maintenance engineers with parts-stocked vans and a 53-member service department ready to service your machinery needs. We offer service across a 22-state territory. We provide the largest dedicated press brake service network in the U.S., backed by more than 40 years of fabrication equipment expertise.
We also provide shops a condition-based preventive maintenance program. We perform oil sampling twice per year to detect wear patterns and fluid degradation before it escalates into unplanned failures. This data-driven approach replaces the traditional calendar-based oil change model with targeted interventions.
We offer shops six core service categories: break-fix repairs, condition-based maintenance and preventative maintenance, installation supervision, operator training and retraining, application support and retrofits. For more information visit our full-service page.
