SafanDarley is one of the leading specialists in developing and constructing press brakes, which are precision metalworking machines designed to bend sheet metal and plate using a punch-and-die system into precise angles. An operator slides sheet bending material between the punch and a lower die to create the bend.
Modern press brakes can handle materials from 26-gauge sheet to plate several inches thick, and can work with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys, depending on tonnage and tooling configuration.
There are several types of press brakes available:
- mechanical press brakes: operates by using a clutch system and mechanical flywheel that stores kinetic energy and transfers it through a system of gears to bend metal.
- hydraulic press brakes: uses a fluid, usually oil, to generate force in hydraulic cylinders. The operator will press a control button and then the control valve opens and feeds fluid into the appropriate hydraulic cylinder. The hydraulic cylinder pushes a piston to apply force to bend the metal.
- electronic press brakes: hydraulic-free machine that uses servo motors to directly drive precision ball screws or pulley systems, accurately converting rotational motion into the ram’s movement to bend metal.
SafanDarley is considered the pioneer of electronic press brake bending technology. The company secured one of the most important patents in the sheet metal working industry in 1995. This was the servo-electronic drive for the E-Brake press brake. Unlike conventional hydraulic press brakes that rely on oil-filled cylinders, SafanDarley’s electronic press brakes use servo-electronic drives to deliver up to 30% shorter cycle times and up to 50% in energy savings. This reduces operating costs and environmental effects.
The SafanDarley press brake lineup ranges from compact 35-ton E-Brake premium models for precision light-gauge work to 300-ton dual drive configurations and heavy-duty hybrid models up to 1,250 tons, covering virtually every bending application.

SafanDarley E-Brake Product Line: Electric Press Brakes from 35-Tons to 300-Tons
The E-Brake 35-130T Premium is SafanDarley’s 4th generation electric press brake. This model offers fast cycle times, low energy consumption, and precision bending in a compact footprint. It is suited for job shops and fabricators working primarily with light-to-medium gauge materials.
The E-Brake 50-130T Ultra adds advanced features including enhanced Y-axis precision and higher-specification controls, targeting shops that need tighter tolerances and faster programming for complex parts.
The E-Brake 300T Ultra Dual Drive uses servo motors driving the press beam via a double pulley system to deliver electronic press braking up to 330 tons with no harmful hydraulic oil and up to 50% in energy savings.
Capital Machine carries the full E-Brake range from E-Brake Premium models to E-Brake Ultra models. The SafanDarley press brake lineup is rapidly becoming the new standard in press brakes. Stop by one of our showrooms where we have the full SafanDarley press brake lineup under power. This allows fabricators to compare models in person and select the tonnage and feature levels that matches their production volume, material range, and budget.
Which Industries and Applications Get the Most from SafanDarley Press Brakes
Precision fabricators producing electrical enclosures, HVAC components, and thin-gauge architectural panels will benefit most from SafanDarley’s electric drive. This is where speed, repeatability, and energy efficiency translate directly into lower per-part costs.
Job shops that run frequent changeovers value the E-Brake’s fast setup and programmable back gauge, which let operators switch between jobs without warm-up delays and inconsistencies that can affect hydraulic machines in cool-start conditions.
For applications exceeding 300 tons, SafanDarley offers hybrid models, such as the H-Brake series, that combine electronic press brake precision with hydraulic power. This covers heavy plate forming in industries, such as oil/gas, structural steel, and shipbuilding, up to 1,250 tons.
Capital Machine matches SafanDarley models to specific applications across our 22-state territory, with separate resources for SafanDarley electric press brakes and SafanDarley robotic bending solutions.
