SafanDarley Electric Press Brakes – Servo-Electronic Bending with Zero Hydraulics

product-logo-safan-darley

A SafanDarley electric press brake uses a servo-electronic drive system that removes hydraulic cylinders, oil, pumps, and hoses completely. Instead of relying on a hydraulic system, bending force is created by electric servo motors that move the upper beam. This design provides cleaner operation, lower noise levels, and virtually zero hydraulic maintenance.

SafanDarley has produced electric press brakes for more than 25 years and secured the patent for the servo-electronic press brake drive in 1995. This made the company the inventor of the technology and one of the longest established electric press brake manufacturers in the world. Today, the SafanDarley E-Brake lineup represents the fourth generation of this system, refined through decades of production feedback from real fabrication environments.

At Capital Machine Technologies, we provide manufacturers across the United States with access to the full SafanDarley lineup. This includes the entry-level E-Brake Standard, the SafanDarley E-Brake Premium covering 35 to 130 tons, the E-Brake Ultra, and the R-Brake, Mini-Cell and Robomate for automated robotic bending solutions.. Each machine is built to support accurate and repeatable forming in demanding sheet metal working environments.

Electric servo drive technology delivers up to 30% higher productivity than a conventional hydraulic press brake. These machines consume energy only during the active bending stroke rather than running a pump continuously. Compared to a hydraulic press, this approach lowers energy use and reduces noise on the shop floor.

Products

E-Brake 35-130T Premium

The fourth generation E-Brake adds important new advantages to the proven E-Brake technology. The E-Brake Premium is the successor of the current E-Brake series up to to 100T.

E-Brake 50-130T Ultra

Work fast without risk: SafanDarley makes that a reality with the safety system integrated within the controls. It works with a safety light screen that is automatically directed from the SafanDarley E-Controls.

E-Brake 160-200T Ultra

Work fast without risk: SafanDarley makesthat a reality with the safety system integrated within the controls. It works with a safety light screen that is automatically directed from the SafanDarley E-Controls.

E-Brake 300T Ultra Dual Drive

Work fast without risk: SafanDarley makes that a reality with the safety system integrated within the controls. It works with a safety light screen that is automatically directed from the SafanDarley E-Controls.

Energy Efficiency and Operating Costs – What SafanDarley Electric Press Brakes Save You

Energy savings are one of the biggest reasons manufacturers adopt electric forming technology. SafanDarley machines consume power only during the active bending stroke. Compared with a hydraulic press brake that runs a pump continuously, this on-demand power consumption can reduce electricity use by up to 80%. Shops can often operate more machines on their existing electrical infrastructure without expensive panel upgrades.

Maintenance costs are also reduced because electric systems remove many service items tied to a hydraulic system. Traditional machines require hydraulic fluid replacement every 2,000 to 4,000 hours, typically costing between $2,500 and $5,000 per change, along with ongoing maintenance for filters, seals, and hoses. Eliminating these components removes routine service tasks and reduces long-term maintenance expenses.

When energy savings, maintenance reductions, and scrap reduction are combined, the financial impact becomes clear. Although electric machines may carry about a 30% higher purchase price, many fabricators see roughly 15% lower total ownership costs over five years compared to hydraulic equipment.

Tax incentives can also help offset the initial investment. Section 179 deductions and bonus depreciation allow qualifying manufacturers to write off the full purchase price of a new SafanDarley electric press brake during the year of acquisition. At Capital Machine, our team structures equipment quotes to include installation, tooling, and training in the capital equipment package so customers can take full advantage of these first-year tax benefits.

Industries and Applications – Where SafanDarley Electric Press Brakes Deliver the Most Value

SafanDarley electric press brakes perform especially well in high-precision, high-mix fabrication environments where tight tolerances, frequent setup changes, and consistent accuracy across short runs matter more than raw tonnage. Aerospace bracket and component forming, electronics enclosure bending, medical device housings, HVAC ductwork, and architectural metalwork are all strong fits for this technology.

Job shops running 20 to 50 different setups per shift can gain significant productivity from SafanDarley’s fast cycle times, quick change tooling and programmable CNC controls. Stored bend programs reduce manual setup time between jobs, while servo-electronic ram positioning delivers faster approach speeds, shorter dwell times, and quicker retract than hydraulic equivalents. That speed matters in shops where small gains across each setup add up over the course of a day.

The SafanDarley E-Brake lineup covers a tonnage range from 35 to 300 metric tons with working lengths from 1,250 millimeters to 4,100 millimeters. This range supports the light-to-medium gauge work that makes up much of job shop and contract manufacturing production. It is well suited for bending steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and other materials across standard fabrication thicknesses.

Operators also benefit from built-in productivity features that support part handling during production. Adjustable support arms help position larger parts, and a programmable bending aid helps guide material during more complex forming sequences. These features help maintain consistent results across multiple bends while improving day-to-day usability on the shop floor.
